 We chose to visit Budapest just before Christmas, and I can say it was the perfect choice. We avoided the typical holiday crowds, fully enjoying the magical atmosphere, but also moments of relaxation and discovery of the city's rich history. Imagine: peaceful strolls along festively decorated streets, savouring aromatic mulled wine, and admiring the historic buildings adorned with lights. A truly special experience!

Budapest: Between Buda and Pest

     Budapest, a city divided by the Danube River, unfolds its story on both banks. To the east, Pest, vibrant and sprawling, occupies two-thirds of the city's area, while to the west, Buda, with its historical charm, completes the urban landscape. Home to approximately 1.7 million inhabitants, Budapest is a city of contrasts, harmoniously blending modernity with history.

    The Danube, winding its way from north to south, creates a natural boundary, but also a distinct difference in terrain. In Buda, hills and slopes rise majestically, dominating the landscape, while Pest stretches across the low-lying plain, dotted with small mounds to the northeast where the Gödöllő Hills begin.

   It's no wonder that the Buda Castle and the Danube banks were designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987. Covering an area of 525 km², Budapest is surrounded by Pest County, with many of its settlements integrated into the city's metropolitan area.

    Buda, with its quiet and picturesque residential areas, is considered the capital's relaxing oasis, also hosting economic zones in the north and south. Pest, on the other hand, pulsates with the energy of the administrative, commercial, and industrial center, offering a variety of residential neighborhoods as well as numerous entertainment options.

Transportation Options from Budapest Airport

    From the moment you step into Budapest Airport, you'll find a wide range of transportation options to comfortably reach the city center. Right outside the arrivals terminal, you'll find a kiosk where you can order a licensed taxi, with the price estimated based on your destination.

   Don't worry if you're visiting Budapest for the first time. Unlike other cities, the airport offers easy connections to the city center. You can choose public transport, taking the 100E bus (900 HUF), which connects with metro lines, both options providing quick access to the heart of Budapest. Alternatively, you can use ride-sharing apps like Bolt or a traditional taxi, with a fare costing approximately 30 euros.

   In our case, we opted for the bus, a quick and efficient solution that took us directly to the city center.
To simplify exploring the city, we chose centrally located accommodation. This choice allowed us to walk to most of the tourist attractions, without needing to use public transport.
